SGP hekelt Gaza-stunt EU-diplomaat

"Pure provocatie", noemt de SGP de stunt van de EU-'ambassadeur' voor de Palestijnse gebieden. De diplomaat ging paragliden op het Gazastrand als steun voor 'vrij Palestina', zonder toestemming van Israel. Dit terwijl invoer van paragliders en andere vliegende voorwerpen in Gaza verboden is.

De omstreden diplomaat (de Duitser Sven Kuhn von Borgdorff) maakte echter gebruik van zijn diplomatiek paspoort voor de actie. "Ik deed dit om te tonen wat Palestijnen kunnen doen zodra Palestina vrij is", zei de diplomaat lachend op een video na afloop, gekleed in een t-shirt met EU-logo.

SGP-Europarlementslid Bert-Jan Ruissen heeft direct schriftelijke vragen gesteld aan de EU-buitenlandcoördinator Josep Borrell. "Opheldering is nodig. Neemt de EU afstand van deze provocerende actie?", zegt Ruissen.

Schriftelijke vragen:

Given that the EU officially does not recognize a Palestinian state and that the Gaza Strip is governed by EU-recognized terrorist organization Hamas:

1. Will the HR/VP distance himself from the actions of Mr. Kühn von Burgsdorff and would he agree this initiative runs counter the interest of the EEAS?
2. Did Mr. Kühn von Burgsdorff use his diplomatic immunity bring his paraglider past border security? If so, would the HR/VP consider this inappropriate?
3. Does the HR/VP deem this initiative as a credible contribution to the EU mediation efforts in the Middle East Peace Process and the envisaged two-state solution?
